Welcome to my (Ms Smith's) Homepage!
I love teaching Human Ecology courses at Highbury School and I am happy you are visiting my website.
I feel that my Foods & Nutrition course offers the best of two worlds:
Healthy Living Strategies + Yummy Eats!
To inspire you to keep trying to be the best that you can be, I am going to tell you a little something about myself that you may not know. What I am about to tell you is DIRECTLY RELATED to the Foods & Nutrition course in which you are taking with me. My little secret? I was once 82 pounds heavier!
Today, I am practising what I preach! Through PROPER Eating Strategies and REGULAR Physical Activity (you can actually see me riding my bike or walking to school - honk if you recognize me), I have accomplished, over the past year and a half, what I honestly didn't think I could do.
This was me then,
To quote Henry Ford "If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right." I truly believe that if I can do it (achieve & maintain a healthy body weight), SO CAN YOU!
'Only' another 25 or so pounds to go...wish me "continued success"!
Click on the photo of the classroom below. This will give you bigger/better view of the classroom.
Please contact me at any time (simply click on the "Email Ms Smith" text at the top of this page) if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Have a great day!

| How does one Achieve & Maintain a Healthy Body Weight? Decrease input (reduced calories) + Increase output (be more active) = Healthy You!
|
| Eating Right... Ingredient Options:
* fat-free sour cream instead of regular sour cream * Skim milk * Soft or reduced-fat margarines * Avoid hydrogenated, saturated, trans fatty acids as much as you can! * Increase your fibre by eating WHOLE grains, more fruits/vegetables, beans/peas/legumes * Avoid the fat clinging to meat
|
| The importance of REGULAR Physical Activity... Being healthy requires more than just eating right. You MUST strive to be PHYSICALLY ACTIVE each and every day. Regular physical activity does wonders for the body: lowers blood pressure, increases lean body mass (muscles), burns calories, strengthens your heart, etc...
