Home Reading

Students should try to read 15-20 minutes daily. Books could be read to parents, babysitters or older siblings. An emphasis is being put on students choosing level appropriate books to read. Ask them about the five finger rule. Please help support daily reading. It is also important to ask your child comprehension questions about the story upon completion.

Math

During the months of February-June, students will be spending time learning their addition and subtraction facts.  In February and March we will be focusing on addition facts as well as adding larger numbers with and without regrouping.

Suggested Activities:

1.              Have your child count their toys (lego pieces, blocks, cards) by placing them in groups such as 2’s, 3’s, 5’s or 10’s.

2.              Your child chooses a card from the deck….now spell that number word.

3.              Ask your child to print any 3 digit number.  Discuss the number found in the ones column, tens column and hundreds column.

4.              Using a deck of cards:  Flip two cards and add them together.
